THE WILD REEDS
THE WILD REEDS ARE A QUINTET FROM LOS ANGELES, CA MADE UP OF THREE FRONT WOMEN, AND TWO GENTS ON DRUMS AND BASS. THEIR HARMONY-DRIVEN INDIE FOLK HAS A SOUND OF ITS OWN, BUT HAS BEEN COMPARED TO FLEET FOXES, JENNY LEWIS, AND CLASSICS SUCH AS FLEETWOOD MAC. THEIR LIVE PERFORMANCES WILL TRANSPORT YOU TO SOMEWHERE TIMELESS, ALL THE WHILE PAINTING A PICTURE OF THE PERILS OF THIS GENERATION. WITH THEIR FULL BAND DEBUT ALBUM “BLIND AND BRAVE” COMING OUT IN EARLY 2014, WE CAN EXPECT A NATIONAL TOUR.

A constant mid-range murmur laid freshly in the air and in my ears – its the kind of hum I would have expected in this place on a Saturday night, but this was Monday. Americana-Folk mavens, The Wild Reeds have clearly made an impression with their December residency. The packed room stirred with anticipation as they floated between the trunk and craft show in the back room and the band’s sound check up front. Read more »
I’m pretty sure if you lined up every indie band member in Los Angeles and made them join hands, you’d create a low-slung hipster equator belt visible from orbit. Sufficed to say, it’s rare the phrase “new indie band from Los Angeles” captures my attention.
The Wild Reeds, a folk group that falls into the aforementioned category, managed to penetrate my steely wall of prejudgments and make a lasting impression. Read more »
